A display system for a vehicle includes a plurality of sensors, a priority determining module, a display control module, and display unit having two display segments. The sensors detect various vehicular conditions to provide signals to the priority determining module. Each signal is assigned a degree of priority of high or low level. On input of signals to the priority determining module, determination is made as to whether the received signals are high or low level. If the received signal is high level, information indicated by the received signal is displayed on both segments of the display unit, while if it is low level, indications on one of the display segments is interrupted and information indicated by the received low level signal is display on the interrupted display segment.
A vehicular display apparatus having a light transmitting display section activated by means of a high-luminance light source, and a high-luminance, self-glowing light emitting display section. The apparatus selectively operates one of these display sections which is selected by a selector switch, so that the selected display section can be visually perceived from the driver's seat side through a meter glass which has a low light transmittance characteristic, thereby making it possible to select a display form which can be observed by the driver with a high degree of contrast between the display section and the background, and which is suited to his preference.
Sensors are used to detect data representing the current state of at least one monitored phenomena. The time available for a human being to make a judgment concerning the detected phenomena is determined and an appropriate number of messages corresponding to the current state of the monitored phenomena is determined for output. At the same time, the priority of each of the messages to be displayed is determined. The number of messages deemed to be appropriate are output and displayed in the order of priority.
If a successive lighting operation inhibition mode is not set up, a pointer portion of a speed meter is lighted, and then a peripheral ring portion of the speed meter is lighted. On the other hand, if the successive lighting operation inhibition mode is set up, the peripheral ring portion and the pointer portion are lighted at once. Subsequently, if a sweep operation inhibition mode is not set up, a sweep operation of a meter pointer in the pointer portion is performed. Thereafter, a nameplate portion is lighted. On the other hand, if the sweep operation inhibition mode is set up, the nameplate portion is lighted instantly without performing the sweep operation.
An indicator lamp unit comprises a number of light-emitting elements, such as LEDs, arranged on the circumference of a disk or arranged in rows on the circumference of a cylinder, and a milk-white lamp case covering the light-emitting elements. A display terminal comprises, in an integral unit, a display, such as a LCD or an ELD, and said indicator lamp unit. The display and an internal CPU are controlled by an external CPU.
An information display apparatus for vehicles for securely providing the driver with only information corresponding to the running condition, the information display apparatus comprising an information processor for receiving information detected by various sensors and monitors and for detecting the running condition of the vehicle, memory containing information on respective running conditions for display and degree of information importance being, and a display unit for displaying information in a display area or in an amount according to the degree of importance. The memory of the information display apparatus is used to read information corresponding to the detected running condition and the degree of information importance. The display area of speed information is increased when the vehicle is running straight and the display area of information about conditions behind the vehicle is increased when the vehicle is traveling in reverse.
