PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an external device such as a digital still recorder or a digital printer to generate an excellent still image. SOLUTION: The image pickup device is provided with an optical system 1 forming an object image, CCDs 3R, 3G, 3B applying photoelectric conversion to an incident light from the optical system 1, a video memory 7 storing the image signal, a controller 13 controlling the write/read of the image signal in the video memory 7, a microcomputer 15 and trigger changeover circuit 14 which generate an internal trigger pulse denoting a timing when the image signal is written in the video memory 7 for each prescribed time and an external output write enable generating circuit 16 generating an external output write enable signal synchronously with the internal trigger pulse and outputs the external output write enable signal with the image signal externally.
