Apparatus for orienting generally non-cylindrical and non-spherical asymmetrical items, such as keys. The item enters an inlet slot which feeds it to an orientation station having (1) a central support, and (2) means for preventing the item from pivoting until a selected portion of the item engages a beveled portion of the orientation station. When such engagement occurs, the item is cammed to pivot about the central support in a predetermined direction to achieve selected orientation.
An orientation device to be fitted has part of the lower end of a drill train having a flow passage and a valve movable between two positions, one permitting an open passage and the other closing it. A direction sensitive member is pivotally mounted having an upwardly directed annular shoulder and the valve member has an upwardly directed arm with an extension which engages the valve annular shoulder to hold the valve from its seat.
A process and apparatus to orient small, very light articles which are irregularly shaped, e. g. dish-shaped or more specifically having the shape of a truncated cone. The dish-shaped articles are caused to be supported in an upright manner in vertical slots in which the center of gravity of the article will always be displaced from the point of support, i. e. the thin peripheral edge at the bottom of the article, and then the articles are caused to be rolled down the vertical slots out onto a c...
The invention comprises apparatus for determining the orientation of the crystallographic axes of a single crystal. The crystal is rotated on a turntable while an X-ray beam containing characteristic radiation is directed onto it. A stationary position-sensitive detector, preferably positioned at right angles to the beam detects Bragg reflections from the crystal, and computing means responsive to the signals from the detector, and signals representing the angular position of the turntable deter...
An apparatus for precisely measuring the direction and grade of tilt, and the rate of change of tilt. The apparatus consists of a lighted fiber optic cable that is fitted with a flotation collar on one end, and the other end is vertically tethered to the bottom of a liquid filled chamber. The light projecting from the cable is sensed by a photodetector and assigned spatial coordinates. The fiber optic cable is sensitive to changes in orientation, and when the apparatus is tilted, or subject to a...
A vibratory feeder for transporting and orienting electrodes for a lamp. The vibratory feeder includes a vibratory bowl and a vibratory track. The vibratory track has a first end in communication with an outlet of the vibratory bowl. The vibratory track includes one or more gradually inclining wall portions for engaging shank portions of mis-oriented electrodes for re-orienting the electrodes. A supply of electrodes are supplied to the vibratory track. A leading electrode is separated from the s...
Monomeric collagen is oriented in solution and the orientation is retained in the resulting gel by setting up convective flow paths in the solution during gelation. The convection is induced by uniform peripheral heating of the cold, collagen solution in a small-diameter cylinder. Oriented collagen produced in this manner has excellent wet strength for use in implants for natural reconstruction of body collagen.
